The Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly was held in October, 2023 and helped to identify the top five legislative priorities for the legislative platform.

The Washington State PTA legislative platform is a two-year platform to mirror the Washington state legislative cycle. On the even-numbered years (like this one!), the new platform is voted on by members at the legislative assembly in the fall. The top five issues become our short-term platform and consist of our priority issues when advocating throughout the year.

This year the top five issues are:

  • Addressing the Student Mental Health Crisis
  • Addressing Critical Gaps in Education Funding
  • Preventing and Reducing Gun Violence and Suicide
  • Addressing Funding, Inclusion, and Supports in Special Education
  • Building and Maintaining Safer School Facilities

For more information see the WSPTA Advocacy Page.

How can you get involved?

  1. Volunteer to be the PTSA’s Legislative Representative, helping gather feedback from BHS families, attend the legislative session in October, and report back at the November General Meeting.
  2. Become a voting delegate for 2024-2025 school year. Our PTSA sends voting delegates to the assembly based off of our membership numbers for the previous year. The Legislative Assembly is typically held in October of each year.

If you are interested in volunteering as a Legislative Rep or becoming a voting delegate please email the PTSA President at presidents@bellevuehighptsa.com.
